Our Ocellated Skinks are growing up!

Our Ocellated Skinks are growing up! A few months ago, some Ocellated Skinks (Chalcides ocellatus) were born and have been steadily growing up.

Ocellated skinks are viviparous, meaning females give birth to live young that have developed inside the body of the parent. Ocellated skinks are tiny at birth, just a few centimeters in length.

Ocellated skinks (Chalcides ocellatus) are small skinks (8-11 in) found in Italy (Sardinia, Sicily, Lampedusa island), Malta, Greece (Crete, Karpathos, Rhodos, Kythnos, Kasos), Cyprus, Turkey (Anatolia).

In the last few years, we’ve become huge skink fans, and Ocellated Skinks are one of a few species that have found their way into our menagerie. These beautiful skinks are as smooth as glass, with glossy overlapping dorsal scales and relatively small limbs.
