An adult female Garden phase Amazon Tree Boa (Corallus hortulanus).

This is one of our adult female Amazon’s that we’ll be pairing up this year. The sire will be our red Calico male.

It’s been some time since we were fortunate enough to have produced Amazons. The last time we produced Amazons, the litter consisted of several different color variations. Amazons happen to be one of the most polymorphic animals. This means that Amazon’s produce a wide assortment of color variations and patterns in each litter.

For those keepers that are interested in the Corallus genus, Corallus hortulanus are a great species to start with. Amazons have a reputation of being aggressive. However, in our experience, its all about how to approach the animal, how you house them, and paying them respect. After all, if you’re interested in working with Corallus (such as Emeralds) you should understand how to each of the circumstances noted above, and have the understanding that these are not Ball Pythons or Red tailed-boas. 🙂
